Transmission of Fire

Remember the old Mr. Transmission on Lyle Street (you could see the orange Transmission Man from the MacDonald Bridge)?

Halifax Police Report:
January 4, 2010GO #10-1734 - Arson - At 10:15 p.m., police responded to Lyle Street Auto, 62 Lyle Street, Dartmouth, in relation to a series of reported explosions. Upon arrival officers found a vehicle in flames. A 49-year-old man was observed fleeing the scene by a Metro Transit employee and was arrested by police on scene. The accused was treated for minor burns and is being held for court tomorrow to face arson charges.

Arson suspect freed on undertaking
A 50-year-old man accused of setting a fire at a Dartmouth business Monday has been released on an undertaking.

Michel Arthur Cote was arraigned in Dartmouth provincial court Tuesday.

Police and firefighters responded to reports of explosions and a fire at Lyle Street Auto, near the Macdonald bridge, at about 10:15 p.m. Monday. They found a van in flames and arrested a suspect nearby.

The Crown agreed to Mr. Cote’s release as long as he stays away from 62 Lyle St., except for employment purposes, and doesn’t possess any weapons or explosive substances.

According to court records, Mr. Cote was living at the Lyle Street address but now resides at Metro Turning Point Centre.

He will return to court Feb. 19.
